Every spring, parents across Texas drag kids and cameras out into the country with one mission in mind: taking a picture in the bluebonnets.
This past Sunday, we joined the rank and file of cars that were heading out of Houston along Highway 290, driving to the Brenham area where Bluebonnets and other wildflowers turn pastures blue, red, purple and yellow.
What we did NOT do was join the scores of cars that veered off the road, jutting off the shoulders, so parents could take pics in the DITCHES! Seriously — when we came upon our first traffic standstill, we though we were about to see a wreck. Nope — just 45-50 cars parked on the side of the road while little ones frolicked among the flowers.
C’MON! Seriously? Am I the only one that has seen all of those tv shows highlighting the crazy wrecks that happen when vehicles are parked like that?
No, we decided to be sensible parents and look for an open field, with grass high enough to hide snakes. That was a wayyyyyyy smarter option for getting our Bluebonnet pics.
