It. Is. Finished.
They are dressed, smiling and off on the “first day of school” adventure. But, oh, Mamas — the marathon that is involved in getting ready for school…. I am TIRED!!!!
As is our tradition, we started our day with the annual Back To School Breakfast. To some it may seem over the top, but we love traditions around here AND I find that it helps keep the excitement up and nerves away. Today I kept the menu simple: slow-cooker breakfast casserole, fruit, juice and milk. Easy peasy and they think they’re getting a treat because of the juice! (it’s a rarity around here because Mama doesn’t like to pay for it).
Then, like all the Mamas around the world, I took a million pictures so that I had at least ONE good photo of each child. Seriously, WHY IS IT SO HARD TO PHOTOGRAPH YOUR OWN CHILDREN???
One more week and then Barney Kneeknuckles’ Preschool will be back in session and this Mama will once again have all the quiet and a chance to think the thoughts.
In the meantime, Barney and I will finish stocking the freezer and pantry with Kid-Friendly Make-Ahead Breakfasts. After a few years walking this Motherhood Journey, I’ve learned that taking this time to prep healthy school breakfasts is a HUGE time saver for us in the morning… plus, we eat healthy and limit the processed, sugar-filled cereals and Pop-Tarts that Mama and Daddy grew up on.
And, in a pinch, these breakfasts can all be used for a school lunch. Win-win!!!!
