Always busy — running here and there.
Splashing through water puddles,
Trudging through sand piles.
Chasing after a dog, a little brother . . .
Or being chased by an imaginary alligator
(apparently, they’re everywhere these days).
Even when going a thousand different places throughout the day,
there’s always time for a little pedicure — a little purple polish —
to be “Just Like Mommy.”
For a few minutes, we’re silent together.
Motionless girlie girls.
Watching the small black brush transform little bitty toes.
The moment passes — the polish is dry,
and then the race,
or game,
or loud, scream-filled chase resumes.
And, once again, these little feet are too busy for Mommy.
